Nether Edge Passivhaus
PROJECT: New Build Passivhaus
LOCATION: Sheffield
ENERGY TARGET: Passivhaus
TECH: Solar panels, air source heat pump and MVHR
Set within a Conservation Area in Sheffield, this is a super low energy home, designed to the Passivhaus standard, to include an air source heat pump and solar energy generation, with storage.
With a brief to create a calming oasis within the dynamic city, the design and materials are intended to generate an elegant, calming feel both inside and out. This is achieved through sensitive design and the use of natural materials, which also allow us minimise embodied carbon as far as possible. The intention is to use UK sourced larch cladding and a pre-fabricated timber frame with recycled newspaper insulation. The roof will be a light weight metal roof with PV films for energy generation.
Internally the layout focusses on enhancing the connection between the garden and living spaces, whilst creating a spacious environment with small carefully located voids built in to add drama and height. To make sure that we keep an efficient shape and good ‘heat loss form factor’ the eaves of the house have been kept as low as possible. This also helps to nestle the house into its surroundings, provide privacy to the living spaces and minimise any impact on the street.
